Lady Godiva also was known as the legend of the nude ride was a noblewoman married to Leofric, Earl Mercia. In old English, Godiva is Godgifu which means the gift of God. She did this to gain pardon on her husband’s oppressive taxation that he imposed on his tenants. This brought about the history of Coventry’s Lady Godiva. All town folks were ordered to stay indoors with their doors and windows closed. However, one man who was a tailor peeped through the window and saw her. Due to the disobedience, he was struck blind. Godiva died between 1066-1086
